As a reminder, even in the Pledge of Allegiance does it state that all Americans are entitled to freedom and justice. That means all of them, not some of them. So, when you support or pass laws that are discriminatory, you are desecrating the values that Americans are supposed to hold dear.
“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
In case you don’t know what the big or important words mean:
Allegiance = loyalty
Republic = a country with a government in the form of elected officials that represent the citizens of their country
Indivisible = unable to be divided or separated
Liberty = the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views
Justice = just behavior or treatment, fairness
All = used to refer to the whole quantity or extent of a particular group or thing
Credo = a statement of the beliefs or aims that guide someone’s actions
Dedication = the quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose
Desecrate = treat (a sacred place or thing) with violent disrespect; violate
So, literally, the Pledge of Allegiance is the credo of Americans and their dedication to their country, their freedom, their justice, and their equality of citizens.
Consider these portions of the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self- evident, that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator, with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” upon which American values and rights are established.
Or, it’s supposed to be.
Instead, Americans are becoming more Anti-American. I’m starting to be really ashamed to be an American. How are we supposed to claim to represent freedom and other such values when we strip such liberties from our own citizens on a regular basis?
