Please Stop Marginalizing Adults with Disabilities

disability-symbolsPeople with disabilities are not second-class citizens, any more than women and people of different ethnicities are. Change is happening, and it is for the better.

Ignorance, such as this example shown below as a letter to the editor of the Burlington County Times dated March 4, 2015, is why advocates for the deaf and others with disabilities have hard work to do. Also, we as those that need the accessibility measures need to make sure that we don’t allow the prejudiced and ignorant to bully us into reverting back into not being allowed to do things, to go place, or to receive information that we as equal citizens as everyone else deserve.

SPEAK UP. ASK FOR ACCESS, AND MAKE SURE YOU GET IT. We are not now, nor have we ever been, second class citizens, and we no longer will allow others to marginalize us.
